The Program
Each year, up to 25 individuals are chosen to participate in a three-month educational program that consists of two networking events, six bi-monthly full-day sessions, class assignments, and a graduation event. Candidates receive an in-depth exposure to the critical issues facing the community through lectures, discussion groups, on-site visits, and other leadership development activities. Issues to be addressed during the year include community service, media, government, politics, healthcare, transportation, arts & culture, and corporate responsibility. The location and format of each session is different. The program enables candidates to develop their leadership capacities, build a strong network and prepare themselves for the challenges of the years to come.
Selection
Each year, 25 candidates will be chosen from the top Chamber partners and sponsors, and select community organizations. The program is a starting point for men and women who have shown leadership and initiative in their communities or businesses, but have not had many opportunities to develop those leadership skills.
All candidates should demonstrate:
- A personal commitment to help improve the DFW area and the quality of life of its residents
- A demonstrated interest in improving the community through past and current activities
- An interest in enhancing their leadership capabilities to keep up with changing times
- A willingness to commit the time and energy necessary to complete the program requirements, which requires the full support of their sponsoring business or organization
Each respective business or organization selects a candidate for the program. The identified candidates should be ones who are most likely to utilize their leadership abilities for the long-term benefit of the city.
History
Modeled after the Leadership Dallas program of the Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Tomorrow was launched in 2004. It is aimed to groom Asian American mid-level managers for career advancement and to expand the leadership capacity of emerging Asian American young leaders to further engage in civic participation for the betterment of the DFW region.
Graduates are expected to serve on committees and boards of organizations throughout the region. They are also expected to support future classes of the Leadership Tomorrow as program advisors and coordinators.
